...In My Opinion

You might not want to admit it, but you know deep down inside, you are secretly a nerd! Perhaps you are not even secretive about it. Maybe you are a nerd and you are proud! Well, good for you, fellow nerd. The best part about being a nerd (or a dork or a geek, if you prefer) is there is some music out there that might specifically appeal to you. Oh yes! Do I dare go there? Oh yes, I do! I want to discuss the nerdiest music ever!

You know what I am talking about. It can be a song that you pretend you don't like whenever it comes on the radio and your friends are in the car. But the second you are alone and that song comes on, you are going to jam to it. Maybe it is a song from an artist that is otherwise cool, but has a dorky song moment here and there. You know you are dancing around in your pajamas when no one is looking while you listen to some nerdy tunes.

Later today, when no one else is around, make sure to revisit my list of nerdiest music videos. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone!

"Buddy Holly" by Weezer

Let's start this list off right with a nerdtacular band called Weezer. Weezer was never really the "cool kids" of music, and nothing proved this more than a little ditty called, "Buddy Holly." Not only is it a rather dorky little song about looking like Buddy Holly, the video makes the band look like they are featured in an episode of Happy Days. Wholesome family entertainment = nerd rock. I don't make the rules, folks, that is just the way it is.

"You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift

Even Taylor Swift is not safe from this nerdy list of songs! "You Belong With Me" is all about the unpopular girl wishing her male friend would ask her out. Instead, the total loser guy wants to be with the cheer captain that wears short skirts and high heels. Poor Taylor is just sitting on the bleachers, wearing sneakers, and a t-shirt. Don't worry, Taylor! Everyone else loves you.

"Stay" by Lisa Loeb

We all love Lisa Loeb and her cat eye glasses (or at least I hope so or there is no hope for me), but let's face it, she was the queen of geeky music in her day. "Stay" is Lisa's big hit from the '90s. Not only is the song adorable and simplistic, so is the video. Let's all take a moment to appreciate someone that would probably openly admit to being a little nerdy.

"Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant

"You don't drink, don't smoke..." Uh-oh! That is not a lyric you hear in a rock song very often. "Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant is all about... well... a goody two shoes. Nothing makes a better nerdy song than a song about a do-gooder like that. Where is the fun in being a goody two shoes? That can't be terribly "rock n roll," can it? It really doesn't matter much. It makes for a fun and awesome song. After all, Adam Ant sure looks like he is having fun.

"She Bangs" by William Hung

I am not going to lie, this one is a little painful to sit through. However, you can't have a nerdiest music videos list without including everyone's favorite American Idol reject, William Hung. "She Bangs" is the very song William Hung attempted to sing at the American Idol auditions. Someone out there thought it would be a great idea to give William a record deal. Yes, I included the official music video for "She Bangs" in this list. Yeah, you can thank me later.

"Invisible" by Clay Aiken

Alright, let's be honest, Clay Aiken is not the coolest guy on the planet. This song about being invisible and stalking his love interest really did not help him either. I can't decide if "Invisible" is a super nerdy song or the ultimate stalker song. Either way, Clay would like to be invisible so he can just "watch you in your room." Creepy!

"Sunshine Day" by the Brady Bunch

Oh, I am so sorry. I just had to include the Brady Bunch. You have to admit, "Sunshine Day" is a totally dorky little song from the Brady Bunch. You can't discuss nerdy music without including this song. Not only is it overly optimistic, it is the Brady Bunch! Need I say more?

"Triple Trouble" by the Beastie Boys

I know I am going to have people come down on me for this one, but yes, I feel the Beastie Boys deserve a spot with on this nerdy music list. I actually had a tough time decided between "Intergalactic" and "Triple Trouble." I couldn't decide, what is dorkier? A music video with space travel or a music video with Bigfoot? I decided to go with Bigfoot because he is just so awesome in "Triple Trouble." Brace yourself for crazy lyrics and I will brace myself for the insults that everyone will post in the comments section. However, I stand by my decision to include the Beastie Boys on this list.

"Close to You" by the Carpenters

After much debate, I decided to include the Carpenters on this list. Don't get me wrong, I love the Carpenters. But how many people out there actually admit to that? Not many, that is for sure. The Carpenters is one of those groups people think are too "uncool" to admit to liking. For that reason alone, "Close to You" by The Carpenters is on this nerdiest music videos list. Now, make sure no one is looking and sing along with "Close to You" - I did.

"White and Nerdy" by Weird Al Yankovic

Last but never least is the man that inspired this entire hub: "Weird Al" Yankovic. For the ultimate in nerdy songs, I present, "White and Nerdy." This video embraces everything that is nerdy. Not only is the an incredible song, you get to check out some of Donny Osmond's sweet dance moves in the background. Awesome!

Even if you think "Weird Al" is all about being hilarious, and never about being serious, I have to say he is a serious performer. "Weird Al" has been creating music for about 30 years now, he still tours, and he is still amazing. If you've never had the chance to see him in concert, you really must because he is an incredible performer. Sure, you might not admit to anyone the next day that you went to the concert, but you will never forget it.
