5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Mariner Point Park If You Live in Maryland
Fun for Free!
If you've read any of my other hubs, you surely know I am a big fan of going places that are free. Recently, I discovered a park called Mariner Point Park. It may not be the most exciting place that you'd go out of your way to visit, but if you live in Maryland and want a quiet park to visit, this is a great destination. Not only is it free, it does have many amenities.
If you are looking for a nice park to take your children, this is it. If you want a big area to walk your dog on a leash, this is also a great option. Maybe you just want to relax with nature. Well, this is it! This is also a good place to visit if you have a boat since there are boat launches. Let's discuss 5 reasons you should visit Mariner Point Park if you have a chance.
The Park is Waterfront
If you live in Baltimore or Harford County in Maryland, you know it is sometimes a pain to get to the beach. Ocean City is one of the best beaches in Maryland, but it also takes a few hours to get there and you usually have to pay for parking. If you just want to relax by the water, Mariner Point Park is the place to do it.
Mariner Point Park is basically a peninsula tucked between two creeks: Taylors and Foster Branch. There is also an area for boat launching into Gunpowder River. If you like to fish, you can do that, too. You just need to make sure you have a fishing license when fishing anywhere in Maryland.
The Trails
If you'd like to take a peaceful walk through the woods, this is a great way to do it. The trails are paved, but there is still plenty of wildlife to look at. You can find plenty of squirrels, toads, frogs, turtles, and birds. If you are lucky, you might even see some geese or ducks.
Mariner Point Park gives you a good walk through nature without the rough terrain that are at some parks. The paved trail is over a mile long, but there are plenty of smaller trails that branch off, so if you are into jogging or running, this is an ideal place for it.
It's Quiet
Did I mention it is pretty quiet there? Sure, you will see others in the park, especially if you go on the weekend, but people pretty much keep to themselves except for the occasionally smile and nod. If you happen to be walking a dog, people are happy to give you your space unless they want to pet your pooch.
I've been to Mariner Point Park several times, and have yet to hear any type of major commotion. Yes, there are pavilions available to rent, but even those families tend to keep it pretty quiet. If you want to blare your music, you'd better go elsewhere. If you are looking for a peaceful escape, you should visit Mariner Point Park.
You Can Walk Your Dog
It has been my experience that not every park is "dog friendly." Although Mariner Point Park is not considered a dog park, it is very accepting of dogs on leashes. Not only do I take my own dog for walks there, other dogs on leashes are happily walking around with their owners as well.
As I said before, the trail is paved and really convenient for people.... as well as dogs. The main trail is pretty wide, so there is plenty of room to walk more than one dog and have a group of people pass by you on the other side. Just make sure to clean up after your pup and the experience should a good one for everyone.
Playgrounds
If you have kids and they want to play, Mariner Point Park does have some playground areas. There is one area that is obvious towards the front of the park, and another area tucked away further into the park. The playgrounds are not huge, but they feature slides, climbing gyms, and other fun things kids enjoy. For that matter, there could even be a few adults that may enjoy the playground as well. Slides are awesome!
Even if you have one of those rare children that have very little interest in the playground, there are plenty of other sights to see, such as pretty flowers and lots of small animals. Mariner Point Park has something for everyone!
